I think you might be right about packet shaping - the 'Fair Use' policy certainly allows for it (despite paying £23 a month for the service).
My friend in Scotland has just started having major lag problems - but doesnt get them when she uses her PC and GW on a friends Tiscali connection, so it is a Demon thing.
Time to look at moving I guess...

Yeah - I'm pondering Zen. Pricey, but you're not tied into a 12 month contract and they seem to have a good rep.
I'm going to have one more go at getting Demon to fix the problem, then cancel. (And eat the cancellation fee for leaving early. *1)
*1 Which is really annoying because I've been a customer of theirs for 8 years - just only moved to BB 6 months back. Also less than amused at having lost my usenet access and webpage when I swopped from my dialup to the Home BB.

Well, got a reply from Demon saying that it was a faulty BT router and has now been fixed.
Of course, I can't test until Monday after work.

Lol I'll believe that when i see it.With me the lag goes away at the weekend, shortly after midnight fridays it magically goes back to normal so if it's a faulty router surely it would be 7 days a week.Hopefully they meant a faulty configuration.

Yeah - still hour and a half left at work then I can see how it is.
He probably meant configuration, but decided to keep things simple and say Router. (I don't pull the 'I'm an IT professional' card when talking to techsupport, because it really pisses me off when people try it with me *1, and 90% of the time they've missed something dead obvious when they've said that. Missing obvious things is a lot less embarassing when the person you're speaking to doesn't expect you to know what you're doing.)
*1 Though, because I don't deal with members of the public, I can just about get away with, 'Well, if you know what you're doing, why did you have to log a call?'

Same here, email fired off.
No satisfactory response by end of week will equal a request for a Migration code.

Try Be - https://www.bethere.co.uk/
"Up to" 24Mb - and cheap. Also with the option of a static IP if you need it.
Mind you, if the fault IS at BT's end, then you're SOL - unless you go with a LLU (and I think Be is).
[EDIT] Indeed it is - and I just found a wonderful too that shows you exactly what broadband is available in your area and from whom.
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php
Just tap in your postcode and it will bring up your local exchange, BT services available, and all the Local Loop Unbundlers. Great Stuff

Unfortunately, I'm on an OU course atm - I can't afford to be without home internet access for the time it would take my line to be connected to non-BT kit - also, not Be* enabled until end of June, and there's no f-ing way I'd sign up with TalkTalk (the other LLU company operating where I live).
Also, I think 'BT router' is Demon obfuscating - I'm not sure where BJT is, but someone further upthread is having the same issue in Scotland. I'm almost as far away as you get from Scotland.

Welp, nearly two business days since I told Demon that the problem wasn't resolved, still no response.
